Austrinoecia isocheira (Müller, G.W., 1906)
Records: 237
This species is endemic to the Southern Ocean, where it has been recorded as one of the most faithfully
occurring species. It was initially described as a member of Müller’s "rotundata group", and so was placed
by Poulsen (1973) in the genus Metaconchoecia. Recognising that the genus Metaconchoecia was
a very heterogeneous assemblage of species Chavtur and Angel (in press) have recently revised the genus,
raising the old concept to that of a tribe, and subdividing the species between ten genera. This
species is placed in its own monospecific genus, although superficially it resembles Clausoecia pusilla.
It is almost entirely restricted to mesopelagic depths in all sectors south of the Subantarctic Front.
