Deeveyoecia arcuata, (Deevey, 1978)
Records: 84
This species was originally described as a Conchoecia species from the Southern Ocean, and later
reclassified as a Metaconchoecia species. It was subsequently found to be quite common at depths
of around 2000m in the North Atlantic, although the conspecificity of the two populations needs to be
confirmed by sequanecing studies. At such deep bathypelagic depths, it can be the numerically dominant
component of the halocyprid community, and as such may prove to be a useful indicator of the spread of
deep water masses. The genus Metaconchoecia has been revised by Chavtur and Angel (in press) and
has been made a tribe. The former species of Metaconchoecia have been divided into ten genera,
and this species is now classified in a genus Deeveyoecia.
