Macrocypridina poulseni Martens, 1979 Records: 122
This species was originally described as Macrocypridina castanea rotunda, and was raised to full species status byMartens (1979). It is a frequent, but seldom abundant, mesopelagic myodocopid that is readily recognized by its relatively large size and its chocolate brown coloration. It is a colour that it shares with very few other pelagic species and that is relatively stable after preservation in formalin. Although common in the Southern Hemisphere, it is only along the Chilean coast that it penetrates far into the Southern Ocean.
