Gaussicia edentata (Müller, G.W., 1906) Records: 38
A deep mesopelagic/bathypelagic species originally described from the Southern Ocean. It has regularly been recorded south of the Polar Front, but never in abundance. About half of the records are of scattered individuals that have been collected in the North and Equatorial Atlantic and in the North Pacific. It seems possible that not all these records are of the same species, and indeed Gooday (1976) when he described species belonging to the "edentata", which now comprise the genus Gaussicia, attributed the North Atlantic specimens to "aff. edentata".
