It is very similar in general appearance to Conchoecissa plinthina and so the records from in and north of the Equatorial Atlantic need to be re-assessed. It is possible that its presence at low latitudes in the North Atlantic is indicative of the northwards spread of Antarctic Intermediate Water, but may also result from mistaken identity. Like most members of the genus, it is a deep mesopelagic to bathypelagic species usually occurring at depths >750m. Southern Ocean n Mean mm s.d.
